Bedroom Signage

Information gathered from 'life story work' forms an integral part of the interchangeable bedroom sign

  • What were/are the person’s favourite past-times?
  • Are there any memorable times/people/animals/places?
  • What is their preferred name?

The interchangeable element allows the good practices of life history to be integrated in to the environment

  • Creating a sense of ownership and dignity
  • Recognition and improved orientation
  • Personal and relevant information for meaningful interactions promoting a person-centred care approach

Instructions

  • Having located an appropriate Picture
Reproduce the image, preferably in colour, on any A4 desktop or bureau printer. Using the lozenge as a template, draw round the image and then cut it to size. Insert image in the sign and replace the lozenge, securing with the clips provided.
  • Name section
Type the name using capital letter first followed by lower case in using Helvetica Bold or Swiss721 BT font. Once again, print this on any desktop or bureau printer. Using the lozenge as a template, mark around the lozenge and then cut the paper to size. Insert the name into the sign, replace the lozenge and secure using clips provided.

We recommend that the sign is fixed at a height of between 1.2M and 1.4M from floor level to ensure it remains in the field of vision of the user.

I think it's a brilliant idea...

"You see the smile on Helen's face when she goes to her room and sees her picture on the door, she knows straightaway that it's her room. I think it's a brilliant idea."
