"Life story work aims to improve the quality of life and well being of people by enabling them to document and share their life story by whatever means works best for them. Examples include written script, photographs, computer file, memory boxes, audio tapes or DVD. It is their unique story. It provides a vehicle for relevant and respectful communication between the individuals concerned and the staff who provide their personal care and support"

Information gathered from ‘life story work’ forms an integral element of Memory boxes
The Memory Box is a life story tool that facilitates a visual representation of a life portrait map. It consists of a collection of objects, assorted memorabilia, photographs, documents and other meaningful items.
All of the selected objects will have personal significance and provide symbols of value and personal history as well as serving as reminders of people, places and events.
Memory Boxes allow the good practice of life story work to become part of the environment and work in a variety of ways
- Creating a sense of ownership through personalisation
- Personal and relevant information for meaningful interactions promoting a person-centred care approach
- Improved way-finding and orientation

"I think they look great and it's good to see my mums picture up where everyone passing can also see it, it just makes it feel like home where you would have personal things in your hall."
